Reflection
There are several challenges that international students face while they come to do their graduate studies in United States. There is change in culture, environment, life – style, rules and most of all the language which people speak. Though English is not the first language back in India, it is the language of education – the medium of instruction right from kindergarten.
The pathway program prepares students to face the challenges of graduate school. The English courses focused on enabling every individual to be able to be able to speak and write efficiently in English without any grammar error. It prepared every student to write as graduate scholar – with a point of critical thinking.
Pathway program provided with the opportunity of getting to know people from different countries. This enabled in broadening my horizon by integrating different perspective. It helped me understand that there are different ways of approaching a problem. It not only improved my English – but my way of approaching things. It made me realize that ‘Diversity is good’ – it makes us look at things from different lens and understand things better.
It was really helpful since it introduce me to the various important rules of graduate school that are important for every graduate student. It also helped me get acquainted to various facilities offered by the university to the students. The pathway program prepared all the students to successfully complete their intended degree.
The journey was enriching in several ways , it not just helped in improving language , but also helped us in being prepared for the challenges that we would have to face as students in graduate school.
